Six Quick Insights

Q1: Is there one trait that you think all CMOS should (or must) have?

A: Humility / ability to delegate. With the speed at which data, social media/new mediums come into play, nobody can have all the knowledge. A great team is 10x more valuable than a super CMO.

Q2: Why do you think CMO turnover is so high?

A: Lack of understanding for what it takes to be successful. Leadership oftentimes wants instant success, but in marketing, that is rare.

Q3: How do you decide if you need outside help and how do you choose?

A: I always need help. I choose based on what my goals are. Is it conversion, traffic, impressions, ROI, etc. based on that, i find someone who specializes in that space.

Q4: What is one business tool (besides email) that you cannot live without?

A: Slack.

Q5: Who gives the best marketing advice? Is there someone you really look up to?

A: Social media. You can quickly find trends and what is working and not pretty quickly.

Q6: What is one book every CMO should read?

A: Simon Sinek – start with why. You can be the best marketer in the world but if you don’t know why, nobody will buy in.
